JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing diagnostic Sonographic imaging through the application of non-ionizing, high frequency sound waves for patients of all ages and maintaining safety at all times.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates general job knowledge of procedures and equipment necessary for job performance

  • Demonstrates general job knowledge of policies and procedures - Hospital and Imaging Department - necessary for job performance

  • Collaborates with department leadership to develop and implement methods to achieve established goals and objectives for the department

  • Assists others in meeting department responsibilities and goals. Performs in accordance with Corporate Compliance policy and adheres to its terms and conditions

  • Demonstrates a collaborative and proactive approach in communication skills, problem solving skills and resolve conflicts as needed

  • Maintains and promotes strong relations with other departments

  • Maintains a safe, clean and economical operation

  • Coordinates and answers questions regarding scheduling and patient information

  • Coordinates and answers questions regarding networking and informatics. Effectively completes and ensures that all electronic data is sent to its appropriate destination.

  • Responsible for inspecting equipment to ensure proper orientation, contacts service if necessary.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.

  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

  • Collaborates with department leadership to develop and implement methods to achieve established goals and objectives.

  • Provides copies of imaging studies in a timely manner

  • Performs routine imaging procedures according to the policy/protocol manual and written orders

  • Works rotating shifts and/or on call, to include 24/7 night and weekend coverage as needed

  • Performs emergent procedures according to the policy/protocol manual and written orders

  • Performs invasive procedures according to the policy/protocol manual and Radiologist's supervision

  • Performs all special procedures according to the policy/protocol manual

  • Documents reports for radiologist approval on completion of procedures

  • Always abides by all regulations that apply to state and national standards

  • Maintains adequate supplies in the work area with items necessary to perform the daily schedule

  • Always advises a supervisor of any items needed from materials management or vendor

  • Submits ideas for quality or performance improvement for department operations

  • Answers the telephone stating name and department, speaking in a clear and moderate voice and assists caller as needed

  • Orients new personnel and assists in their transition to the work environment as assigned

  • Provides assistance to other associates in the department upon completion of responsible duties or as assigned by a supervisor

  • Attends and participates in monthly department meetings Responsible for all information communicated at the meetings

  • Reports for scheduled shift on time; prepared to assume duties

  • Adheres to the department dress code at all times

  • Performs ultrasounds with optimal quality for interpretation with accuracy and without delay

  • Monitors patient's condition or behavior while maintaining patient modesty and comfort

  • Maintain excellent knowledge of equipment and procedures

  • Ability to adjust a protocol to a patient"s unique situation

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Troubleshoots problems related to image quality and reports unresolved problems or issues

  • Ensures that exam rooms are clean and equipped with appropriate supplies and equipment required for each patient

  • Fully competent with Pyxis access (when required)

  • Instructs patients regarding imaging procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and co-operation (may require the use of a translator)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A and B. Minimum of two (2) years post graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including doppler, obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography (of which at least two (2) years experience is as a senior ultrasound radiographer in an acute care hospital) is required
  • C. Minimum of four (4) years post graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including doppler, obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography
  • For UAE Nationals: upon completion of an internship
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems using critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret clinical data for the establishment and implementation of appropriate patient treatment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak and write in English is required
  • Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferred

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A. Bachelor"s degree in Radiography plus a program certificate in Sonography (minimum one (1) year syllabus)
  • B. Bachelor"s degree in Sonography accredited program (minimum three (3) year syllabus
  • C. Associate"s degree in Sonography (minimum two (2) year syllabus) and registered with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists, the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologist, UK-HPC, Australian Sonographer accreditation Registry, Ireland Department of Health and Children, New Zealand - Australian Society for ultrasound in Medicine, South African Health Professional Council (as Radiographer)
  • Current national license is required
  • Master"s degree in Medical Imaging or relevant clinical field is preferred (will reduce one (1) year from the required years of experience)
