Job Title : PRINCIPAL GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER - MARINE GEOCONSULTING Reports to** : Marine Geoconsulting Manager

Key Accountabilities:

Basic Function

The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will work as part of a dynamic team to develop and promote Fugro Core values of; Client Focus, Delivery Excellence, Team Fugro, and Good Citizenship. The primary role will be to lead the marine geoconsulting team in a technical capacity, developing team member skills, coordinating and integrating specialist services of other Fugro countries and engaging clients to develop and deliver project. The work will involve interaction with clients in order to identify their needs, prepare proposals, coordinate with other Fugro Geoconsulting offices, actively participate in the development of the service line. Review and QA/QC of geotechnical data and engineering assignments prepared by team members . The position commands a responsibility and necessity to lead by example. Initiative is a pre requisite part in the role of all duties.

Roles And Responsibilities

1. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1.1 Geoconsulting

a)Perform technical duties related to engineering. b)Supervise project teams, delegating work, guiding team members and checking calculations and reports prepared by team members. c)Review and check reports prepared by the Marine Geotechnical group. d)Demonstrate excellence in report/proposal writing and verbal communication skills. e)Excellence in research and consulting practices. f)Experienced working with teams of geologist and geophysicist. g)Enable and facilitate discussion between the geotechnical team and the geophysical team. h)Undertake professional development activities both internally with Fugro and externally. i)Provide technical training to team members. j)The ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel if required. k)Communicates directly with Client and ensures that reporting deliverables meet Client requirements and agreed timelines. l) Participate in engineering discussion and meetings with Clients from preparation until closure of a project. m)Stay aware with changing industry practices and consult with Marine Geoconsulting and Engineering Managers for constant implementation of latest practice relevant to engineering assignments carried out within the Marine geotechnical group. n)Consult with Marine Geoconsulting Manager for distribution of the tasks to geotechnical engineers.

1.2 Commercial and Marketing Duties

a)Client liaison and development. b)Tender preparation and review. c)Maintain knowledge of trends, techniques, technologies through continuous professional development. d)Excellence in client development and in maintaining positivity in client relationship. e)Anticipate geotechnical engineering needs of clients.

1.3 Project Management Duties

a)Responsible for monitoring project budget, schedule, assist with draft invoice preparation. b)Control manpower resources.

1.4 Specific Additional Duties a)Actively participate in adherence to and improvement of the company Management System on Quality and HSE related issues. b)Actively participate to engineering process improvement, training and knowledge transfer to geotechnical engineer.

2. Principal Working Relationships

a)Inform Marine Geoconsulting Manager on specific engineering requirements for project. b)Liaise with Marine Geoconsulting Manager for continuous development of engineering practices and reporting standards. c)Delegate engineering tasks to geotechnical engineers to maximise own time on own tasks.

Requirements

Qualifications required: a) M.Sc. level in civil engineering or equivalent in education and experience, PhD level would be a plus.

Skills / experience required to do the job:

a)More than 8 years experience in marine geotechnical engineering work and 4 years experience in similar principal engineer position within a geoconsulting team. b)Versed with wide spectrum of marine geotechnical engineering (e.g. pipeline, piled foundations, shallow foundations, jack-up, soil-structure interaction). c)Work experience with teams of geologist and geophysicist enabling efficient site characterisation process by integration of geological, geophysical and geotechnical data. d)Experienced with advanced laboratory testing interpretation. e)Experienced with FEA engineering software. f)Confident in leading technical discussions. g)Client engagement. h)Experience with GIS capabilities would be a plus. i)Conversant with basic equipment / software. j)English language. Arabic would be a plus

Fugro is seeking a dynamic individual to fulfil the role of Principal Geotechnical Engineer - Marine Geoconsulting, in it’s principal Abu Dhabi office.

Fugro Survey (Middle East) Ltd (“FSME”) is the leading offshore survey company in the Middle East region. It is part of the Fugro Group, with over 400 employees based in Abu Dhabi and operates in accordance with International Standards. The working area includes the Gulf, Arabian Sea and Red Sea.
